India's leading two wheeler maker Bajaj, had earlier in January this year, at the Delhi Auto Expo, showcased its first four wheeler named as RE 60. The small car is expected to be launched in the country by the end of 2013 and would take on the likes of Nano, the low priced car from the stables of Tata, that has been acclaimed all over the world. The launch of RE 60 would offer buyers a choice between the two low priced cars, the Nano and the RE 60. It is, therefore, necessary to do analysis of the technicalities, looks and comfort features of these two vehicles in order to find out which is the better of the two.

The Nano, despite being a low cost small hatchback car has a decent look with sweeping bonnet. The diamond shaped clear lens headlights matches with the overall look of the car and makes its exterior elegant. On the other hand, the yet to be launched Bajaj RE 60 too has decent appearance. However, the Nano takes a slight edge over RE-60 when the looks of two vehicles are compared.

Under the hood, the Nano houses a 2 cylinder, MPFI (Multi Point Fuel Injection) petrol engine capable of delivering a peak power of 34 bhp at 5250 rpm. The Nano delivers an excellent mileage of 26 kmpl on highways and 19 kmpl on the city roads. On the other hand, the Bajaj RE-60 will house a Digital Twin Spark Tech 200 cc engine that should be capable of churning out a power as high as 20 bhp. According to Bajaj, the RE-60 will deliver a whooping mileage of 40 kmpl, which will act as the USP for the vehicle.

While the Tata Nano has drum brakes, both on the front and the rear, the RE-60 will come with discs on the front and drums on the rear. While Nano can reach a top speed of 105 kmph, the RE-60 will have the maximum speed limit of 70 kmph. The Nano comes with a starting price tag of Rs. 1.42 lakhs and the price of the RE-60 is expected to be around Rs. 1 lakh.

While the Nano is a small family car, the RE-60 from the technical specifications and exteriors, appears to be made more for the commercial segment. It will be used for carrying passengers just like Tata Magic and should, therefore, not be a threat for Nano. On the whole, the RE-60 would serve as a great passenger carrier and may become as popular as Bajaj's own three wheeler autorickshaw.
