      August sees car debuts and refinements

      The month of August has witnessed the births and surgeries of a number of cars and that too from  famous parents like BMW, Tata, Safire, Maruti, Volkswagen and Audi to name a few. These giants are either putting products in school or intending to ascend the grade of the already in school cars. The 2011 BMW X3 which was launched in Pune on 25th august and it is expected to compete against the likes of the Audi Q5, Mercedes ML class, Volvo XC60 et al. This new SUV has been introduced as a CKD unit. The new X3 been shown thumbs up for going against the previous version by being spacious and roomy. The 2.0 litre X3's one of the versions namely XDrive20d is priced at Rs 41.2 lacs, while the more strengthened  XDrive30d has got a price tag of Rs 47.9 lacs.

      The new Tata Indica Vista safire GLX has been launched in the 1.2 litre, 1.4 litre MPFi-Safire petrol engine and 1.3 litre Quadrajet diesel engines. Looking at its fuel efficiency, the figures satisfy with Vista offering a mileage of 16.7 km per litre for petrol and 22.3 km per litre for diesel cars. The car's safety has been ensured by including ABS with EBD, crumple zones, dual airbags and intrusion beams. A standard feature like remote keyless entry and engine immobilizer does icing on the cake.

       

      New Cars in India
       

      Another vehicle taking part is all New Maruti Swift which has come up with the diesel variant with specifications of 1.3-litre DDiS engine with 75 PS and 190 Nm of torque from 2,000 rpm. 22.9 kmpl mileage for diesel version is quite appreciable and satisfying. The other option is a 1.2-litre K series petrol engine with 87 PS and 114 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. This variant provides a fuel economy of 18.6 kmpl. The new model will be slightly longer and wider.

      Fresh Volkswagen Jetta is a recent revelation in the industry and talking about its first impression, many are calling it a Vento incarnation. Jetta appears like a sedan and a mettle that many associate with Multi Utility Vehicle (SUV) in the Indian car market. The high end new Volkswagen Jetta variant is armed to teeth including leatherette upholstery and the best of all the add-ons is the steering wheel covered with genuine leather. Another pertinent transformation is the visible elongation and a longer wheelbase. As a result it is more open and free from inside. The Jetta is only in diesel variant, the 2-litre diesel being the same as on the top of the line Skoda Laura and reaches a powerful figure of 140bhp.

      Audi India recently launched the Audi A6 in India; the new A6 has accessories worth admiration and is quite decently priced. The new Audi A6 has a starting price of 37.7 lacs for its 2.0TDI variant, and goes as up as 47 lacs for its 3.0 TFSI variant. The A6 has provided with four luxuries to choose from, including two diesel and two petrol engines. The petrol engines include a 2.8l FSI engine that has a displacement of 2,772cc with a maximum power of 204bhp, and a 3.0l TFSI engine that has a displacement of 2,995cc with a maximum power of 300bhp.

      Tata has now introduced a 4X2 version of Tata Aria, the refinement of the previous Aria model, which not only makes its model range having more in store, but more affordable than ever. Even in its 4x2 version, the Aria will give its customers the same strength and bold output through its advanced 2.2 litre Direct Injection Common Rail (DICOR) engine, with variable turbine technology and 32-bit ECU that delivers 140 PS power and 320 Nm torque.

      The era of new cars has arrived with the monsoon but does not seem to pass with the rains, in India.
