Automakers in India seem to be on a price hike spree these days with German luxury automaker, Audi following the suit with the announcement of surge in prices of its highly dynamic and popular SUV Q3. Audi India declared its intention of raising the prices of Audi Q3 by around 2 percent amounting to Rs. 50,000 to be operation from 1st October this year.
Currently, the premium automaker has tagged the chic and sturdy SUV with a price of Rs 26.21 lakh onwards (ex-showroom, Maharashtra) for the base model and 31.49 lakh onwards (ex-showroom, Maharashtra) for the top end model.
Mr. Michael Perschke, Head of Audi India, was quoted as saying, "Due to economic upheavals and rupee devaluation, we have increased the price by 1 to 2 per cent on both the high grade and base grade version of Audi Q3 2.0 TDI."
Mr. Perschke however, added that Audi is confident of achieving the sales target of 8,000 units till the end of the current calendar year in the Indian auto market considering Audi Q3 as the major contributor for driving the sales.
While launching the Audi Q3 premium SUV at the 2012 Delhi International Auto Expo earlier this year, the company had confirmed that only limited number of the models of the SUV will be offered for sale in 2012. However, the sales pooled by Audi Q3 have crossed 1,000 units in the Indian auto market.
During the period January to August this year, Audi Indian registered an impressive sales jump of 47.91 per cent while in the month of August this year, the sales recorded a flight of 42.35 per cent in comparison to the same period last year.
