With just a few days left for its launch in the country, the much awaited Chevrolet Beat diesel is started doing rounds on silver screen. The excitement among prospective buyers is at its peak as the car is claimed to be offering a very attractive performance with fuel economy as high as 24kmpl.

Powered by a 1.0L diesel engine, the TDCi diesel engine, the Beat Diesel model will be generating a peak power of 57 bhp and maximum torque of 157 Nm. This will be the first of its kind diesel engine in the Indian market as no other car in this segment is powered by this type of power-train.

At present, the Beat model is available in petrol version in the Indian market in the price segment of Rs 3,55,490 - Rs 4,73,824 (ex-showroom Delhi). Though the car had received a very good response from the Indian buyers in the initial months of its launch, the lack of a diesel variant proved a major setback for it as soon as rivals like Ford Figo, Volkswagen Polo and Nissan Micra debuted in the country (all available in petrol as well as diesel variants). Thus, with the launch of new diesel variant, the Beat series will be enabled to compete more promptly with these competitors. The car is expected to drive in volume sales for the company, considering the rapidly growing demand for diesel run small cars in the country.

The car is expected to be priced in the segment of Rs 4 to 5 lakh. Speaking to the reporters Coimbatore, Karl Slym President and Managing Director General Motors India, said, "With fluctuation in fuel prices in India from time to time, the new diesel Beat, the prices of which will be announced at the launch will revolutionise the small car segment, with its engine capacity and fuel economy."
