Maruti Suzuki happens to be the market leader in the Indian automobile market when it comes to passenger cars. The extent of ruling over the market is evident from the fact that as of November 2012, the auto company had a market share of 37 per cent in the car market and still it thrives with a wide range of products. An all-inclusive list includes likes of Stingray, Alto 800, Alto K10, A-Star, Swift DZire, Eeco, Ertiga, Grand Vitara, Ritz, Swift, SX4 and WagonR. This certainly is a big list to follow, but the auto company does not seem to be content with the existing range as it plans to expand even more. The expansion plans of Maruti Suzuki are pretty evident if one peeks into the upcoming car models. According to the available information, it is looking ahead to launch 5 different car models in 2014 in order to further cement its place in the Indian automobile market. These upcoming models are Alto 800 Diesel, XA Alpha, WagonR Diesel, YL1 and YL7.

With soaring prices of petrol, customers are keenly looking forward for diesel variants. As such, the endeavour of companies is to lure such customers with their diesel models. Maruti Suzuki, without being an exception to the aforesaid rule, also plans to introduce the diesel variants of its best selling cars namely Alto 800 and WagonR. Since their inception in the market, these two hatchbacks have produced phenomenal sales in the Indian market. There are rumours that the company is developing an ingenious 2-cylinder 800 cc diesel engine to be used with Alto 800. As far as WagonR is concerned, many industry experts are of the opinion that this vehicle will get a three-cylinder 0.8-litre diesel powertrain. The diesel version of WagonR might get dual-tone beige and black interiors featuring elegant silver accents, panoramic view and amber lighting. Other features that WagonR could get are airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Rigid Case Structure (RCS), rear demister, driver seatbelt indicator and immobiliser with security alarm.

Maruti Suzuki XA Alpha concept car was first viewed at the 2012 Auto Expo that was held in January 2012. With this vehicle, the auto company plans to foray in the entry level Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) segment. There are speculations that this upcoming utility vehicle will come equipped with a K-series engine to power petrol variants and 1.3-litre DDiS unit for steering diesel variants. However, power and torque outputs of engines are yet to be revealed. Being company's first entry into the popular SUV segment, several experts are of the view that this vehicle will come with improved on-road performance. Its mileage is expected to be around 10 kmpl and top attainable speed will be of up to 180 kmph.

Along with, the company also plans to launch YL7 hatchback and YL1 sedan in 2014. Notably, YL7, which is likely to be showcased at the Delhi Auto Expo 2014, will be based on Maruti Suzuki’s small car platform. As speculations are, this vehicle might replace A-Star and Estilo that are not reporting good sales in the Indian automobile market. Following the same suit, YL1 sedan is likely to go on sales by the end of third quarter in 2014. Many experts see YL1 as a good replacement of currently the available SX4 sedan in India.
