Mahindra XUV500 is one of the robust utility vehicles in the Indian auto market, under Rs. 20 lakhs. Mahindra has tirelessly worked in giving the Indians the ‘sasta and sundar’ SUV. With four variants available, the bookings for this set of wheels from Mahindra were closed within a week after its launch. The four variants of this model offered by Mahindra and Mahindra are W4, W6, W8 AWD and W8 FWD. With four options available, selecting one can be tricky with everyone having varied needs, and thus a sneak peak into the same has been made by us.

The availability of a lot of features across all the four variants can be called as a key selling point of the XUV500. Features like micro-hybrid technology, power steering, central locking, remote tailgate opening, dual tone interior are found in all the variants of the XUV500. Fog lamps are something you’ll be missing out on the W4 while the other three variants come equipped with it. Both the W8 variants employ tilt and telescopic power steering while W4 and W6 come with the standard power steering. For people who won’t settle for steel wheels, W8 is their pick as both the variants come with alloys while W4 and W6 have normal wheels.

The W4 being the lower variant loses out on many points, but it is the only option that offers cup holders while missing out on steering controls. While W4 and W6 come with standard Jacquard upholstery, the W8 variants come with leather seats. For entertainment, the W8 variants come with a 6” touchscreen infotainment display, W6 packs a 6” monochrome display while the W4 has a DIS in-built infotainment system. Variants from W6 and above comes equipped with fully automatic temperature control (FATC) while the W4 has to do with a regular air conditioner.

Safety has always remained one of the top priorities for Mahindra, and evidently it can be seen that a lot of safety features remain common across all the variants of the XUV500 like dual front airbags, side impact beams, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD). However, for the top options i.e. W8 AWD and W8 FWD, Mahindra decided to give it an extra side and curtain airbags, hill hold and hill descent control and Electronic Stability Program (ESP) with rollover mitigation control.

The XUV 500 W4 being the lowest variant misses out on most of the features W6 and W8 (AWD and FWD) have, nonetheless, the engine and the performance figure remain same for all the four variants.
