2016 Skoda Superb unveiled

Skoda, the Czech automaker, has revealed the third generation Superb saloon in Prague. Sharing the styling cues with the VisionC concept, the new saloon is larger, roomier and much better looking than the outgoing model. The sedan will go on sale this year in international markets, while the India launch is expected by early 2016.

The Skoda Superb saloon wheelbase has been increased by 80mm, which in returns offer spacious cabin. The front overhang is shortened by 61mm, which add to its dynamic characteristic. The sedan has new front fascia with distinctive grille, flanked by sharp cut headlamps. The side profile features narrow pillars, sculpted waistline and sloping roofline to offer coupe-like styling. At the back, the Superb sedan has new C-shaped taillamps with LED inserts and new bumper.

Interiors are pretty spacious and are better with 157mm rear legroom and 69mm improved elbow room compared to outgoing model. The sedan offers a large luggage carrying capacity of 625-litres, which is up by 30-litres. Talking about features, the Superb saloon gets Dynamic Chassis Control with Drive Mode Select, electrically operated panoramic tilt and slide roof, heated seats, three-zone automatic climate control, rain and light sensors, windshield, etc. The other additions include new electrically operated tailgate, park assist for automated parking and rear view camera.

For passengers’ entertainment and connectivity, the sedan has new infotainment system, high-speed internet access based on LTE, SmartLink interface include MirrorLink Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, etc. To play music the audio system uses twelve speakers with 610 watt power output.

The new Skoda Superb is 75kg lighter and offers 30 per cent more fuel efficiency than the outgoing sedan. Engine options include 3 petrol and 2 diesel engines- a 1.4-litre TSI, 1.8-litre TSI and 2.0-litre TSI petrol and a 1.6-litre TDI and 2.0-litre TDI. All models are fitted with a start-stop system and brake energy recuperation.
