Hyundai, the South Korean carmaker, has started working on the new-generation Elantra, as a camouflaged pre-production model of the sedan has been spied in Korea. The new-generation Hyundai Elantra will receive major design changes and new features, coupled with a frugal engine lineup.
The spyshots suggest that the next-gen Elantra will feature an evolutionary design against the existing facelifted model. It will feature large projector headlamps with LED DRLs, large horizontal slat chrome grille, LED strips on the lower fascia and new tail lamps with revised LED cluster. Though, it will retain the original design and silhouettes. Since the spied model was camouflaged, the interior details are still under wrap.
Features like autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control and a new high-end JBL Surround Sound system are likely to be on offer. The build quality could also be improved with premium interior trim and materials. Talking about the engine, the 2016 Elantra will derive its power from a tuned lineup of four-cylinder diesel engines. A 1.6-litre T-GDI petrol unit might also be offer. It’s the same powertrain that is found on the new Tucson. This T-GDI engine churns out a maximum power of 176PS that transmitted via a 6-speed manual gearbox or an all-new 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Hyundai might launch the new-generation Hyundai Elantra in global markets in the coming few months, while it will hit our shores by the end of 2016. Upon its launch, the 2016 Hyundai Elantra will rival against the Skoda Octavia, Toyota Corolla Altis, Volkswagen Jetta and Chevrolet Cruze. It is likely to be priced Rs. 13 lakh onwards (ex-showroom).
