Tata Motors, today, will launch the much-awaited Nano GenX (AMT) in India. The 2015 Nano has received a bunch of exterior and interior updates, though the new AMT (automated manual transmission) and the openable bootlid are the major changes made to the car.
The new Nano GenX is powered with the same 624cc, two-cylinder MPFI petrol engine that also does duty to the existing model. Though, the new cylinder head and aluminum block make it a more refined engine to drive. It develops a maximum power of 38.19PS at 5, 500rpm, while yielding a peak torque of 51Nm at 4, 000rpm. This powertrain is mated to a new Magnett Marelli-sourced 5-speed AMT gearbox that makes it the most affordable automatic car in the country.
While AMT will be available only on the top-end trim, other variants will get a 4-speed manual gearbox. The new Easy Shift – AMT variant is claimed to offer a maximum mileage of 21.9kmpl, while the regular manual models will deliver a fuel economy of 25.35kmpl. Based on the company’s new ‘Infinity design theme’, the Nano GenX looks quite similar to the current model. However, the new paino black finish on front and rear profiles, smoked headlamps with large and black bezel fog lamps, a large badge on front end, integrated rear spoiler and openable boot give it a refreshing look.
The new Tata Nano GenX will be offered in a new Sangria Red color along with the regular shades. The new model comes equipped with several comfort-enhancing features such as Amphistream music system with 4 speakers and Bluetooth connectivity, Zest/ Bolt-inspired steering wheel, front power windows, Multi information display, central locking remote, new interior trims, power steering, burglar alarm and externally adjustable ORVMs.
Set to rival against the Hyundai Eon and Maruti Suzuki Alto 800, the 2015 Tata Nano GenX will be offered within the price range of Rs. 3 lakh – Rs. 3.2 lakh (ex-showroom).
