Among these cars were four concept vehicles that were powered by non conventional fuel technologies. Tata Motors' portfolio at the 2012 Auto Expo included the Indica Magic Iris CNG, Indigo Manza diesel-electric hybrid, Nano CNG and Starbus Fuel Cell. The Nano CNG attracted a lot of attention from visitors present at the 2012 Auto Expo, which comprised media, public and figures from the industry. Tata Nano, the cheapest production car in the world, was launched in India amidst great hype and buzz. Industry experts and analysts had projected high sales for the Tata Nano. However, the car was unable to return with the anticipated figures, thereby dealing a severe blow to the auto maker's plans. Tata Motors, in order to revamp the prospects of the Nano, decided to unveil the CNG version at the 2012 Auto Expo. Although the unveiling of the Nano CNG attracted a lot of attention, the company has not launched it in the market yet.

Present at the event was, P M Telang, the Managing Director for the firm's India Operations, who spoke about the different vehicles that were being introduced at the 2012 Auto Expo. “With the Safari Storme, the iconic Safari becomes a contemporary SUV suited to the desires of today’s SUV lovers. The Ultra range and the LPT 3723 will create new segments and generate higher incomes for their owners. As importantly, we are displaying our progress with alternate fuel technologies towards a more comprehensive portfolio for the future,” he said.

The car that stole the maximum attention in Tata Motors' pavilion at the 2012 Auto Expo was the Tata Safari Storme. According to reports, the Indian auto maker had a lot of expectations from this new generation Safari as the previous generation models had been really successful. The new Safari Storme was given some modification to the exteriors of this Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) to make it look more appealing. The elegant design of this car include a new grille, projector headlamps and a bonnet with a power bulge. Interiors of this new SUV are more spacious, featuring new beige seats, wood-accented dashboard and leather wrapped steering wheel. The Safari Storme is powered by a 2.2-litre engine that runs on the Common Rail Direct Injection technology. This powertrain is capable of generating an output of 138 bhp along with peak torque of 320 Nm.

After generating tremendous buzz, Tata Motors finally launched the Safari Storme in the Indian car market. To say the least, it has matched up to the expectation levels of the auto maker, getting a good response from both critics and buyers. The popularity of the Safari Storme has reached quite a high level as Colors, the television channel, collaborated with Tata Motors for the Indian version of the much acclaimed international series 24. In this series, the protagonist, played by Anil Kapoor, will be seen driving the Safari Storme.

The performance of Tata Motors in the recent past has not been up to the mark due to adverse market conditions and the financial crisis. According to reports, the firm is planning to introduce a new version of the Nano, which will be promoted as a vehicle for youngsters and people living in the city. Also, sources claim that the Indian auto maker is working on a new platform that could prove to be a game changer on the future. Industry experts feel that the 2014 Auto Expo could be really important for the future prospects of Tata Motors.
