
Introduction

The future is electric, and the German automaker Mercedes-Benz has gone all out with its new flagship electric sedan, the EQS 53. Interestingly, this is the first battery-electric Mercedes-AMG series-production model based on the new Mercedes-EQ platform. And it offers a fine blend of performance, style, and luxury.
Exterior

The Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 is easily distinguishable from the regular combustion engine as it features a black panel grille and chrome vertical struts with integrated ‘AMG’ lettering Mercedes star. Further, the fascia is complemented by ‘Digital Light’ headlamps and a high-gloss front splitter with chrome trim. The sporty air inlets hint at this EV’s aggressive character. Moreover, the bonnet overlaps the wings.

In terms of dimensions, the AMG EQS 53 has a length of 5,223mm, a width of 1,926mm, and a height of 1,515mm. The wheelbase stands at 3,210mm, offering ample legroom and headroom for the occupants. The vehicle highlights a one-bow design with a coupe-like silhouette. The side profile is accentuated by illuminated seamless door handles, frameless doors, and EV-specific tyres wrapped around 21-inch cross-spoke light-alloy wheels in matt black and red calipers.

The rear section is highlighted by LED lamps in a 3D helix design. Additionally, the boot can be accessed via the ‘Star’ badge and offers a large capacity of 610 litres.
Interior and features

The interior is futuristic and immersive in every way. The Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 offers Space Grey Artico leather on the instrument panel and beltlines, while the AMG performance steering wheel and seats are wrapped in black Nappa leather. Further, it gets AMG sports pedals, AMG floor mats, and door sill trims.

The dashboard is highlighted by a massive 55.5-inch wide MBUX hyperscreen with an AI-enabled adaptive display. This unit gets 12 actuators for haptic feedback during operation, 46.4 GB of memory, and seven co-driver profiles. The ‘Zero layer’ technology ensures that the most important application is displayed on the top. Interestingly, if the camera detects the driver looking at the co-driver display, the screen is automatically dimmed in case any content is displayed.

The vehicle will offer on-board updates and enable downloading online games via an over-the-air update. In the list of endless features, the EQS 53 also provides a heads-up display, 3D maps, and AMG-specific functions. The rear-seat occupants can also control the MBUX unit via a tablet on the armrest.

For an immersive musical experience, the EQS 53 offers 710W Burmester 3D surround sounds with 15 speakers. Additionally, the multiple ambient lighting options sets the mood for every occasion.
Performance
The Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 features two permanently agitated synchronous motors which are powered by a 107.8 kWh battery pack. The all-wheel drivetrain produces 751bhp and 1,020Nm of torque. The vehicle has a WLTP range of 529-586kms. Further, the vehicle can sprint from zero to 100kmph in just 3.4 seconds, while the top speed is limited to 250kmph. It offers a maximum 200kW DC charging capacity and offers 30 minutes fast charge from 10-80 per cent SOC in DC charging.

Interestingly, the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 has a service interval of once in two years/30,000kms and a battery warranty of 10 years/2,50,000kms. In terms of safety, the vehicle gets nine airbags, lane change assist, emergency stop assist, steering assist, blind spot assist, lane keeping assist, evasive steering assist, distance assist distronic, and pre-safe system.
Pricing and competition

The Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 has been introduced in India via the CBU route at a starting price of Rs 2.45 crore (ex-showroom). The vehicle competes against the likes of the Porsche Taycan in India.
