We reported earlier that Yamaha might preview the naked version of the YZF-R3 – the MT-320 (MT-03) – at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo in February. Now, the patent images of the bike have been leaked online. The Yamaha MT-320 (MT-03) will be brought via CKD route from the company’s Indonesian production plant. According to reports, the Japanese two-wheeler maker might unveil the Yamaha MT-320 (MT-03) in the next few months.
The MT-320 will feature a 321cc, twin-cylinder engine that will also power the upcoming R3. Though, it will be slightly lighter than the R3. This powertrain is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission that helps the bike produce a maximum power of 42PS at 10,750rpm and a peak torque of 29.6Nm at 9,000rpm. The MT-320 will share some styling cues with the Yamaha R3 and MT-25.
The braking system, suspension unit and instrument panel, too, will be borrowed from the R3. The MT-320 will get telescopic forks up front and monoshock suspension at rear axle. Braking power will be derived from the front (298mm) and rear (220mm) disc brakes with ABS (anti-lock braking system).
The Yamaha R3 is likely to launch in India next month (i.e. August). It is claimed to be equipped with racing-derived features such as direct drive camshaft, low-friction pistons, forged pistons and carburized conrods. The Yamaha YZF R3 will be pitted against the Kawasaki Ninja 300 and KTM RC 390cc, while the Yamaha MT-320 will rival the offerings from Bajaj and KTM.
