While the monsoon is one of the most enjoyable times of the year, the rash drivers will be having a hard time this season. The Transport and Highway Minister of India, Nitin Gadkari, informs that they are planning to introduce a Road Transport and Safety Bill in the monsoon session of Parliament that will begin next month. Putting up some statistical data, Gadkari says that in the annual number of 5 lakh road accidents, 3 lakh drivers are left crippled while another 1.5 lakh lose their lives. In the course of action, Gadkari informed that the 30% bogus driving licenses issued throughout the nation is one of the reasons as to why these accidents happen. So in order to reduce this, 5,000 computerised driving test centres will be opened throughout the country. This new Road Transport Bill also enacts a fine of Rs. 3 lakhs along with a minimum of 7-year imprisonment in case of the death of a child, followed by huge fines for driving violators.

It has come to notice that faulty manufacturing designs of the vehicle are also a reason of these road accidents. So in order to put a halt on this, Rs. 5 lakh fine per vehicle along with imprisonment for a certain period can be a result of these faulty actions by the manufacturing firms. These actions have been aimed to bring down the road accidents by more than 50% as the people will get more careful while driving their vehicle. This will help both the drivers and the pedestrians feel safe while crossing the road. The States have been of the view that their rights will be taken away from them if the bill is passed. Gadkari assures a zero disturbance to the States and informs them that not a single penny will be borrowed from them for the implication of the above plan.
