The long standing tussle between workers and management at country’s second largest car maker Hyundai Motors India Limited (HMIL)’s Chennai plant is showing signs of ending soon. The only recognized worker’s union - United Union of Hyundai Employees (UUHE) – at the company’s Chennai plant is looking forward for a negotiated settlement with the company management.

Speaking to the IANS recently, K. Dilli Babu, UUHE president, said, "Labour issues are to be settled through talks. Violence on the part of police or workers should not have any role in settling the labour issues."

UUHE is all set to hold the first office bearer’s election next month, inside the facility. According to Mr. Kumarswamy, Treasurer at the firm, said, it is the first time last 13 years of the company’s operations in India when office bearer election will be held inside the factory premises.

Recently, a top official of the Regency Ceramics factory in Yanam (an enclave of Puducherry in Andhra Pradesh) was lynched after alleged death of a union leader in the police action.

The Sriperumbudur plant of the company near Chennai has been witnessing a series of labour problems since last few years, where there are two worker’s unions including the recognized UUHE and unrecognized Hyundai Motor Employees Union (HMEU).
