Volvo XC90 receives Red Dot 'Best of the Best Award' for Product Design

Swedish car maker Volvo’s new model, XC90, which is set to be launched soon, has already created a huge footprint in the market and is taking several steps in the right direction. While deliveries of this car are expected to begin in spring, Volvo XC90 has already notched up a registration count of approximately 24,000. This is excellent news for Volvo as the firm has achieved its target for half the year even before the launch. The good news does not end there for Volvo XC90 as it has won the Best of the Best Product Design award from Red Dot. Notably, this is the first model from Volvo based on the Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform.

Alain Visser, Senior Vice President for Marketing, Sales and Customer Service at Volvo Cars, spoke about the company’s happiness on these developments. “The fantastic reception for the all-new Volvo XC90 gives me confidence that the car will meet our customers’ high expectations once we start delivering the first XC90s later this spring. We are well-positioned to deliver another year of record sales in 2015,” he said.

The Red Dot Best of the Best set of awards is decided by an international jury, which consists of 38 strong and well-reputed experts from around the world. This jury chooses winners from 5000 entrants that range across 31 categories. Volvo XC90 won the award for its top notch quality and pioneering design.

Thomas Ingenlath, Senior Vice President for Design at the firm, also spoke about the firm’s philosophy and endeavours. "The new XC90 is the vanguard of Volvo’s new design direction. In our work on this car we have been very much aware of Volvo’s heritage, the value of authenticity and Scandinavian design, but we have also taken some bold and progressive steps forward, aiming for a design style and execution level that pushes our boundaries. I am very proud that our new flagship has won the prestigious Red Dot: Best of the Best award," he said.
