The Volvo S90 sedan has been spied testing yet again in Europe. The sedan is expected to be revealed at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show or Detroit Motor Show. The S90 will share its design cues, engines and technology with the Volvo XC90, which was showcased at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show.

The Volvo S90 will take its design inspiration from the Volvo Concept Coupe. The S90 will be larger than the S80 sedan that measures 4,850mm in length, 1,860mm in width and 1,490mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,830mm. Based on Volvo’s latest Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), the S90 will have a commanding road presence. It’s the same platform that underpins the new XC90, V60 and S60.

On the exterior, the sedan will feature the XC90-inspired signature ‘Thor Hammer’ T-shaped DRLs with LED headlamps, long vertically-slat chrome grille, signature rear lighting and muscular stances. The interior, too, will look identical to the 2nd generation XC90. Features like Orrefors gear level, Bower & Wiklins audio system, Sensus infotainment display, soft leather and wood trim could be borrowed from the XC90.

The Volvo S90 will be powered with the Drive-E 2.0-litre engine lineup – a 225bhp, D5 diesel, a 190bhp D4 diesel, a 254bhp, T5 petrol, a 320bhp, T6 petrol and a 254bhp, T5 petrol. Whereas, the 400bhp, ‘T8 Hybrid’ engine will be offered only on the top-end variant. All these powertrains are the same that do duty to the new XC90. An 8-speed automatic transmission and optional Haldex AWD drive system will also be on offer.
