Volkswagen, the German car manufacturer, has introduced the customary BlueMotion modified version of its compact hatchback- the Polo TSI. For the first time the VW Polo is being offered with the company's fuel-saving technology inconjunction with a petrol engine.
The VW Polo TSI BlueMotion is powered by a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol unit that churns out a maximum power output of 95PS and a peak torque of 160Nm. This model sprints to 100kmph from standstill in mere 10.5 seconds, and it remains stable at a top speed of 190kmph. The company has slightly modified the exteriors of the vehicle as it now features low rolling resistance tyres, tweaked aerodynamics and lowered ride height.
The Volkswagen Polo TSI BlueMotion gets mechanical upgrades as well in the form of start-stop system, regenerative braking, and longer gear ratios in upper transmission stages and gear change indicator. The VW Polo TSI BlueMotion is claimed to return an excellent fuel economy of 24.39kmpl, which is around 1.13kmpl more than the standard 1.0 TSI model. It is quite early to comment whether the Polo TSI BlueMotion will make its way to the Indian car market. However, the increasing demand for more fuel efficient cars might inspire VW to launch this model in the Indian market. In Europe, the VW Polo TSI BlueMotion is tagged at 15,925 EUR (Rs. 12.31 lakhs).
