At the launch of the Pajero Sport 4x2 Automatic variant, Mitsubishi Motors announced to introduce more SUVs in the Indian car market, though they didn't name any. But we expect Mitsubishi to relaunch its flagship SUVs - Outlander and Montero - in the Indian market, which were phased out last year. The company is also aiming to expand its dealership network to 48 from current 31 by March, 2015.
It was speculated that Hindustan Motors will launch the Outlander diesel in 2014; however, the company delayed the launch. We expect that the next Outlander could make its way here by the festive season, 2015. This time, the updated SUV will also get diesel fuel option and new features.
Interestingly, Mitsubishi Motors is also working on a compact SUV based on the Renault-Nissan product. This SUV will go on sale in the European market in 2016. Considering high demand for small SUVs in the Indian market, a compact SUV from the Japanese automaker, too, will make sense.
The next product that Mitsubishi might bring in is the Montero SUV. The previous model was powered by the 3.2-litre 4-cylinder unit capable of producing 165PS of power and 383Nm of peak torque. The upcoming model could feature a more powerful version of this motor that will feature both 5-speed automatic and manual transmission gearbox.
