Volkswagen India, the well known German auto maker, seems to be working on the development of a facelift version of Jetta sedan for the Indian auto market. Sources close to the development process have revealed that the changes in new Jetta will be minor; however they will offer a refreshing look to the model. It must be noted that the current generation model of Jetta was introduced in August 2011, which seems to be a long period since then. Industry experts are of a view that the launch of refreshed model is quite necessary for Volkswagen as since 2011, a number of auto makers have come up with their new models, which are performing better than Jetta.

Sources further said that the reworked model of Jetta is likely to feature few changes, which will be appreciated by the Indian buyers. To name a few, new head lamps, LED daytime-running lights and new alloy wheels will find place in the new Jetta. At interiors, all the variants of Jetta will come fitted with with climate control system, which is said to be a good addition as the current Jetta lacks this option. At exteriors, advancements like head lamp washer will be seen in the new model; however parts like bumper, grille and fenders will be kept unchanged. Coming to its technical specialities, the engine is believed to be kept untouched, which means it will get a 2.0-litre engine in the diesel variant and 1.4-litre motor in the petrol version. The petrol engine will churn out a peak power output of 120 bhp with a maximum torque of 200 Nm. Along with, the diesel engine will produce 138 bhp of highest power and torque of up to 320 Nm.

Adding to its performance is the six-speed manual transmission system, which is offered in both the engine options. Buyers can also opt for a six speed automatic gearbox with the diesel engine option. Few auto analysts also believe that Volkswagen is keeping its first foot forward to compete against the likes of recently introduced Skoda Octavia and the segment leader Hyundai Elantra. Reportedly, the sales of Volkswagen Jetta are also quite unfavourable as the auto maker reported just 49 units during September, 2013. In terms of pricing, it is speculated that the model will be offered within a bracket of Rs. 13 lakh for the base variant and Rs. 19 lakh for the top-spec diesel version.

Industry experts are of a view that with the launch of facelift Jetta, the German auto maker will take the Indian auto market by storm. Also, as the festive season is at its peak, the launch of a new model can be beneficial for Volkswagen. It will be interesting to see that whether these updates on Jetta will help the company turn the tides in its favour or not. It must be noted that a number of models are being launched auto companies in the Indian auto market, in order to capitalise on the ongoing festive season. After Skoda Octavia, the American auto maker, General Motors, introduced facelift model of Chevrolet Cruze in the country. According to reports, Volkswagen India will soon start pre-bookings of its new facelift model, in order to garner the attention of domestic buyers.
