Tata Motors is working on two SUVs - a seven-seater and a five-seater - which will be based on the Land Rover Discovery Sport L550 platform.Codenamed the Q501, the SUV will share the chassis with the Discovery, but the styling will be inspired from Tata's future design philosophy. Theophilus Chin has released an imaginary image of the upcoming Land Rover Discovery Sport based Tata SUV.

The rendering seems heavily inspired from the Tata Hexa concept. According to Tata, the Hexa's styling previews the company's future design philosophy for the SUVs. Unlike the concept, the rendering has high ground clearance to tackle rugged road conditions. The SUV shares Discovery Sport's shape, size and large 2741mm wheelbase. It will also mark the first Tata Motor's car to share components and styling from Land Rover. The car is also likely to source JLR's Terrance Response system.

The Discovery Sport is available in both five and seven-seat options, and the same will be expected from the Q501 SV. Much like the LR, the SUV will offer a water wading capacity of 600mm and a high ground clearance of 212mm. The Discovery Sport gets power from a 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder TD4 & SD4 engines. While the TD4 mill is good for 150PS of power and 400Nm of torque, the SD4 motor develops 190PS and 420Nm of torque.

If media reports are to be believed, the upcoming Tata Q501 SUV could get Fiat's 2.0-litre multi-jet II diesel engine which is likely to develop around 150 to 175bhp of power. This engine will also power the upcoming Jeeps. However, the engine is not manufactured in India and Tata Motors will have to wait for this engine to get locally assembled. Interestingly, Land Rover is also aiming to add new eD4 diesel engine to the Discovery Sport, which is good for 150PS and 380Nm. Tata Motors could also use this engine to power the future SUV.
