Triumph Motorcycles, the largest British motorcycle manufacturer, has made immense progress after setting their foot in India. It had identified the immense possibility of its signature products on the country and had set up Triumph Motorcycles India to market its products. The company deals in adventure, tourer, roadsters, supersport and cruiser bike categories, which have immense potential in the country. In fact, India is just waking up to the different segments of motorcycles and looking forward to buy and tour across the terrains. Triumph Motorcycles has given them just that and the bikers of the country have received the brand warmly. Indeed, the company, riding high on the heavy demands of Indians, has soared high for a beginner. The company is now aiming to grab hold of 15 per cent market share in the category of 500 cc motorcycles. However, the target is not at all as easy as it seems. Triumph Motorcycles India has set itself a target of selling 1500 units a year, which will take it to the desired market share.

Triumph has had a positive show in the Indian market till now. Considering the fact that it is only in the tenth month of its launch in the country, the brand has made quite a commendable performance. Till date, the brand has sold 835 units, which comes to almost 84 units a month. This number might not reveal all, but when it is shown on a comparative basis, the fact of the matter is that Triumph has definitely hit the bull’s eye. Not so long ago, Kawasaki, another leading brand of two-wheelers was able to sell 1000 units in the first year of its launch. Considering the fact that Triumph has still two months in its favour, it is expected that Triumph might touch that target set by Kawasaki or even surpass it. Kawasaki entered the Indian market with its Ninja 250R, which was then priced at 3 lakhs INR. Triumph Motorcycles markets its most affordable bike, the Bonneville at 5.85 lakhs INR that is also the best-selling model of the brand till date.

Vimal Sumbly, the Managing Director of Triumph Motorcycles India, when asked about the growing potential of advanced bikes in India, commented, "India is the world's fastest growing super bike market and we have ambitious plans to tap this potential. It is the fastest growing market for Triumph and we aim to capture around 15 per cent of this niche segment this fiscal year when around 10,000 units are expected to be sold (in total). We are adding new products and increasing the assembly operations to cater to this rising demand."

Triumph Motorcycles is growing its presence in the country. Currently, the number of its dealerships in the nation is eight. However, it is expected that the Kolkata and Chandigarh showroom will be up and running by the middle of October. The plan of selling its bikes in Nepal is also in the pipeline, where it has an aim of selling 125 bikes a year.
