Toyota Kirloskar Motors launched its premium SUV Fortuner in India last year and it competed head-on with Ford Endeavour and other premium SUVs in its segment. The company stopped its booking temporarily owing to the overwhelming response from the Indian market. It has cleared most of its backlog from its initial bookings of 8500 units and with 4000 orders still pending it now intends to begin bookings for the model once again. Toyota has ramped up production of Fortuner from 500 units to 950 units a month. It will clear the entire backlog by September this year.
“Bookings for the Fortuner will reopen from July 1, 2010, across India. The company had put a hold on the bookings from January 31, 2010, because of a backlog of orders booked in," Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) said in a statement. New bookings will have delivery scheduled between October - December 2010.
Toyota Fortuner is available at a price range of Rs. 19.35 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
