Indian auto maker Tata Motors is planning to synergise strengths of its technical know-how in the premium segment and its expertise of selling in the Indian market. It acquired premium luxury brand Jaguar and Land Rover in 2008 and has been able to turn-around the brands into profitable state. Now Tata Motors is developing a new model codenamed as ‘DR0’ which is being developed together by Tata Motors and Jaguar.

The product is still in its initial stages where Tata Motors will lend its robust platform for the developing markets like India and China while R&D centre of Jaguar will lend its product innovation, vital technology inputs and interior designs.

“We are trying to combine the synergies of both the companies. We have certain strengths in understanding the requirements of emerging markets and we also have cost competency. JLR, on the other hand, has the strength in product innovation and developing new-generation vehicles,” said PM Telang, Managing Director, Tata Motors.

The car will be priced in the price segment of Rs. 20-30 lakh and will be a premium luxury saloon competing with models of age-old luxury car sellers likes BMW and Mercedes. Tata Motors is experienced in requirement understanding and cost competency and Jaguar is known for its premium badge. Both the companies feel that there is ample scope in the market for such a luxury brand.
