Toyota Prius, one of the most fuel efficient cars in India, may soon be launched in the country by Toyota. The Japanese car maker may introduce its superstar hybrid car next year in India which may come as a response to Honda's latest hybrid model, Civic.

Toyota Prius is currently being sold in more than 40 countries worldwide and is one of the most promising models of hybrid cars from Toyota. It shall be imported as completely built unit in India which may make the car as a costly affair. It is expected to be priced around Rs 18-22 lakh. The recent price hikes in fuel costs have given a rise in demand for hybrid vehicles.

Toyota has lowered its global sales target from 9.85 million vehicles to 9.5 million vehicles in the current year. The company sales have been largely hit due to growing economic crisis around the world. Indian auto market and auto company shares in India have also witnessed a slump and auto makers have posted decline in sales in the last quarter of the current fiscal year.
