Toyota Motor Corporation continues to hold first position in global vehicle sales after Q4 of last fiscal by selling 2.52 million units all over the world. It must be noted that Toyota happens to be the world's top-selling auto maker for the last three years in a row. After Toyota comes the Volkswagen Group that delivered 2.49 million units during the January-March tenure. The German brand outpaced American brand General Motors, which came up with global sales of 2.4 million vehicles.
However, the sales of Toyota were down by 2 per cent from a year ago, as the demand lagged in Japan. In contrast, the demand for Volkswagen models increased by 1.8 per cent on year, with General Motor expanding its sales by 1.9 per cent. With these figures, industry experts are of a view that the race among these three brands is going intense, and thus the audience can witness some new models being rolled out by them in the near future.
The President of Toyota, Akio Toyoda is all set to embark on its growth plans again, after the set back of consecutive recalls in US, following several defects in their models. It must be noted that the Detroit based company General Motors, which owns brands like Opel, Chevrolet, Buick and Cadillac, was ranked as the top-selling auto maker for over seven decades until being outpaced by Toyota in the year 2008. Apart from these, Volkswagen has picked up a fantastic speed in the recent years, while exploring new markets such as China where the potential for growth is great.
