Delhi Police has started an investigation in view of allegations that touts sold fake tickets of the recently concluded 2012 New Delhi Auto Expo. There were many reports of people buying these fake tickets of the mega show from touts. Police is trying to determine whether people were able to enter the event with the help of these tickets.

According to police officials, the perpetrators of this racket had made approximately Rs. 1 crore by selling fake tickets. The authorities did not rule out the involvement of insiders and said that they will contact the organisers about the fake ticket incident.

A police officer commented, "We had inputs about the fake tickets and accordingly laid a trap. However, we were not successful in nabbing anyone but we will continue to work on the information we have."

Fake tickets were not the only problem at the event as many touts sold tickets in black too, earning a huge mark up over the actual price of the ticket. Tickets that were worth Rs. 150 were sold for up to Rs. 500 during the Auto Expo. Reportedly, touts were able to sell as many as 50 tickets in a span of just 30 minutes when the Expo was in full swing. Gate numbers 1, 2 and 5 as well as the Pragati Maidan Metro Station were the hotspot for such illegal activities.

Delhi Police has yet not found much concrete information in both cases, despite a few arrests in the overpriced tickets case.
