Politicians in India can never stay out of limelight in India, especially when they do something that draws criticism. Something similar took place recently when Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, popularly known as KCR, made a recent luxury acquisition that raised a few eyebrows. The Telangana CM recently added to his convoy a Mercedes-Benz bus, which is impervious to bullets and mines. Reportedly, this bus will be used during his tour to Telangana districts. According to reports, this bus has a cost of around a whopping Rs. 5 crore.
It is believed that the bus was brought to a Telangana district from Chandigarh on July 1st, 2015. This bus has a capacity of seating 12 people and features a ladder that leads to the top. The staircase will is likely to be used by KCR to climb to the top and consequently, be visible to everyone looking at the tour. This bus is also equipped with Wi-Fi, which will enable the Chief Minister to hold meetings with his team of officials.
The consequence of this action drew criticism from all corners, including other political parties, the media and the general public. Indian National Congress was quite vociferous in its criticism, claiming that this self-indulgence was uncalled for when there are 700 farmers who have committed suicide due to failure of paying off loans. KCR’s party, TRS, countered the allegations by claiming that the Chief Minister will be using this vehicle to communicate with the common man. It is being said that KCR is going to use this bus in the “Haritha Haaram” programme – a plantation driver overseen by the Telangana government.
