The Solar car built by a group of some 20 students from Netaji Subhash Institute of Technology is representing India in the South Africa Solar Challenge competition. It is also the cheapest car in India. The car represents Indian engineering in the competition that promotes students to develop products that cater to industry and market demands.

Mayank Sharma, Senior Member of the team and Design Engineer for the Car, relayed the technical specifications to Cartrade. The model in the competition is a three-wheeled car with a rear wheel drive. These wheels are driven by motor through single reduction chain and sprocket system which steers the front wheels. The total weight of the car is approximately 400kgs including the driver. It has a DC Sepex, 3HP motor and SEPEX motor controller. Moserbaer has sponsored the team by offering 4 solar panels of 200 Watts. It uses Phocos CXN charge controller for the car.

“I am very happy to see everybody's interest in this project,” says Mayank Sharma on CTI. He also thanked everyone for their valuable comments and best wishes. “Hard work and dedication showed the way,” he adds.
