Tata Nano, the made in India world's most affordable car shall now adorn the streets of Bangladesh. The compact city car Nano has been launched in Bangladesh market for about Tk 8 Lakhs (Rs. 628188). For now Notol Motors is the sole authorized distributor for Tata Motors in Bangladesh. For the first three days, Nitol Motors has announced discount of about Tk 1 lakh, thereby bringing down the car's price to about Tk 7 Lakhs.
The Tata Nano was launched at a function held in Ruposhi Bangla Hotel in Dhaka. Some prominent figures from Bangladesh politics and corporate world attended the recent launch event - Mashiur Rahman (Prime Minister’s Economic Affairs Advisor), Abdul Matlub Ahmad (Nitol-Niloy Group Chairman), Abdul Moshabbir Ahmed (Managing Director, Nitol-Niloy Group), Johnny Oommen (Tata Motors Head of International Business), Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed (FBCCI President).
Currently as per law, supplementary duty of about 45% is required to be paid to the government for importing cars under the 700cc segment. Both Tata Motors and Nitol Motors have been asking the local government to withdraw the supplementary duty, but no update in this regard is known. The local ministry has encouraged entrepreneurs to locally manufacture such cars rather than spending on importing them.
Speaking more on the situation, Matlub Ahmed said: “The price of Nano will go down by Tk 110,000 at customer level if the supplementary duty is withdrawn. The low-income people will be buying the car more easily because of that (withdrawal of supplementary duty).” Convenient financing option is also present, wherein interested buyers can make a down-payment of about Tk 299,000 and pay the rest in 42 monthly installments amounting to Tk 19,500. the car has been launched in interesting shades of royal gold, papaya orange, damson purple, silver, pearl white and dazzle blue.
