DSM Engineering Plastics, a subsidiary of Royal DSM is now going to develop various components for the new Tata Nano that is scheduled to hit roads later this year. DSM Engineering Plastics has obtained approval for developing more than 20 parts in under the bonnet components. It shall also be developing some critical parts interior and exterior components for transmission.

Tata Nano was unveiled this year by Ratan Tata, Chairman of Tata Motors, in January this year at the Delhi Auto Expo. He promised to keep the price tag at Rs. 1 Lakh inspite of rising cost of production, stating “a promise is a promise”. Tata Nano caught the world attention as the car under $2500. DSM Engineering Plastics shall be associated with Tata Motors and their Tier-1 development of components for Nano.

DSM is one of the multinational corporations and DSM Engineering Plastics is its Pune based subsidiary which is a leading supplier of high performance thermoplastics. According to Nitin Korthari, MD, DSM Engineering Plastics, 'We would be supplying at least 25 different components to Tata Motors for their One-lakh car.'
Tata shall be working with several vendors, mostly local to curb the production cost and keep their promise to the Indian customers.
