      Tata Motors attains 4% growth in its overall sales

      Tata Motors total sales for the month of May 2012 has been registered 64,347 vehicles, which is 4% more than the similar period last year. The sales figure comprised Tata commercial and passenger vehicles. Against 56,571 units of Tata commercial and passenger vehicles sold in May 2011, the company sold 60,128 vehicles in May 2012 registering 6% growth.

      For the fiscal cumulative sales inclusive of exports of the company has been registered around 124,433 units compared to 126,353 units sold last year, which marked a downfall of 2%.

      In May 2012, the company’s sold 39,625 commercial vehicles in the domestic market against 37,170 vehicles sales in similar period of 2011 registering a growth of 7%. Last year, in May, the company sold 21,638 LCV but during the same period this year, the figure went up to 27,174, pushing the growth to 26%. However, M &HCV sales declined by 20% as Tata Motors sold only 12,451 units compared to May 2011.

      Commercial vehicles cumulative sales in the domestic market has been registered 74,272 units this fiscal, which is 1% more than last years figure. Over last year, 17% growth has been attained in Cumulative LCV sales at 51,992 units. 22,280 units of M & HCV’s have been sold pushing the company’s growth to 24%.

      Passenger vehicles sales showed a growth of 6% in May 2012 as Tata motors sold 20,503 units against 19,401 vehicles. Compared to 6,515 units of Tata Nano sold in May 2011, the company attained sales of 8507 units in the similar period this year moving up the growth to 31%. Against 5,497 units of Indica sold in May 2011, the company registered sales of 5,467 units, which was 1 percent less.

      Last year in May, sales of company’s Indigo range were 4,268 units but this year during the similar period, it sold 3,397 cars registering a decline of 20%. In May 2012, sales of Safari, Sumo, Venture and Aria were 3,132 units. Cumulative sales of passenger vehicles was 42,788 units in May 2011 but this year during the similar period, it sold 43,161 vehicles pushing the growth to 1%. At 16,535, cumulative sales of Tata Nano remained flat. 27% growth has been attained in the cumulative sales of Tata Indica range as the company sold 12,380 cars. Indigo vehicles cumulative sales were 7,066 in May 2012, which was 26% lower. 3% growth has been registered in the cumulative sales of Safari, Venture, Aria and Sumo as Tata Motors sold 7,180 units.

      In India Jaguar Land Rover sales continued to increase. Compared to 5,534 vehicles exported in May 2011, the company’s sales from export this May were 4,219 vehicles. For the fiscal, cumulative sales from export were 7,000 units against 9,792 vehicles in the similar period of 2011.
