Tata Motors, the largest vehicle maker in the country, on Friday launched the first factory of its British subsidiary Land Rover in the Indian market. The new India plant of Land Rover has been established in a bid to mark its foot prints in the rapidly growing South Asian market. The plant has been established in the outskirts of the city of Pune, about 100 kilometers from Mumbai.

Initially, the company will roll-out its luxury SUV (sports utility vehicle) Freelander 2 from this plant. With the launch of new plant of the company in the country, Tata Motors will be able to keep the cost of JLR portfolio vehicles competitively low. With this, the move will also help JLR compete more promptly with the well established brands in the country like Mercedes, BMW and Audi.
