      Car makers gear-up to roll-out diesel versions of their small cars

      Amidst the growing demand for diesel run cars in the small car segment, a number of auto makers are set to launch diesel versions of their small cars in the Indian market. A number of new small cars with small displacement diesel engines are ready to hit the Indian in coming months.

      First among these is the diesel version of the compact hatchback Chevrolet Beat which will hit the Indian roads in the first week of July 2011. The car will come powered by a 1.0L diesel engine with expected maximum power capacity of 57 bhp. The car is claimed to be delivering a high mileage of over 20 kmpl.

      The other prospective diesel run small cars in the country include a diesel version of small car Tata Nano and upcoming Honda Brio. Tata Motors has already announced that it will be rolling-out a diesel version of Nano in the last quarter of this year. On the other hand, Honda Brio, which is scheduled to be launched in the country in October 2011, is expected to be launched with a 1.5L diesel variant, following the initial launch of a 1.2L petrol version.

      The Japanese Nissan has already launched the diesel version of its Micra hatchback in December 2010.
