Fresh speculations suggest that Toyota will be launching its newEtiosCross crossover in India in the first week of May. Bookings forEtiosCross started a few days ago, dealers are accepting booking at a token amount of Rs 50,000. The company displayedEtiosCross at the 2014 Auto Expo held in February this year.
BesidesEtiosSedan andEtiosLiva hatchback, this would be the third mass segment vehicle from Toyota in India. At a time when the auto maker is going through a tough time in terms of sales in India,EtiosCross may come as a respite for Toyota. Company’s March sale stood at 9,160 units including domestic sales and exports, however in the same time last year, Toyota posted sales of 21,143 units.
EtiosCross is conceived on Liva hatchback, Toyota made modifications on the exterior and interior front. Added features on side profile includeOVRMswith turn indicators, roof rails imparting a sporty look to the vehicle and sidecladdings.
The crossover will be launched in both petrol and diesel guise, the base petrol model is likely to cost Rs 5lakhand the basic diesel trim is speculated to come with a price tag of Rs 6.35lakh. The aggressive pricing for vehicle could work in its favour, however the actual price details will be revealed at the day of launch.
Interiors are done in piano black, features like integrated music system withUSB, AUX andBluetoothconnectivity, steering mounted audio controls, rear wiper, defogger will be offered among others. Preeminent safety features like ABS and front driver and passenger airbags are expected to be proffered on the vehicle. The crossover will come with a boot space of 251 litres.
EtiosCross will be equipped with the same set of engines doing duty in Liva hatchback. A 1.2 litre petrol and a 1.4 litre diesel engines will be housed inside the petrol and diesel variants.EtiosCross petrol could also be offered in 1.5 litre engine option.
