      Michael Mayer appointed as new Brand head for Volkswagen India

      June 1, 2014 is the day when forty five year old Mr. Michael Mayer is expected to resume duties in the post of Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India. The newly appointed brand head has been associated with the German group Volkswagen for over 20 years. Mr. Mayer reportedly has worked across a number of factory planning projects across assignments in Portugal and China. Apart from various other positions in the organization, Mr. Mayer has also headed the Sales division for Western European Region. Among his regular task, he also oversaw the worldwide activity for wholesale development.

      In past, Mr. Mayer has also worked for Bentley Motors Ltd. For about six years as the Head of its European Retail Development activities. Moreover, it is said that he held the post of Regional Director for UK and Europe, thereby undertaking operational responsibility for the Bentley brand in Europe, including Central Asia and Russia. Mr. Mayer holds a degree in Engineering and Business Administration and currently holds the responsibility for Market Planning of Volkswagen Passenger Cars European Sales Division located in Wolfsburg, Germany.

      Post resuming duties in the new role Mr. Mayer is expected to report to Mr. Thierry Lespiaucq, Managing Director, Volkswagen Group Sales India Private Limited.

      Recently, it was being said that the German car-maker intends on launching the new Volkswagen Polo GT TDI in the Indian market. The upcoming car is expected to be powered by 1.5-litre TDI four cylinder diesel engine. The engine is expected to replace the existing 1.6 Liter engine version and 1.2 litre, 3 cylinder engine. The new engine shall be mated to 6-speed DSG automatic gearbox. Moreover, the engine is blessed with variable-geometry turbo (VGT) technology that churns out a decent 104 Bhp of power. The new 1.5 Liter engine shall be manufactured at the company's local manufacturing plant, thereby it is anticipated that the prices may well be kept under check.
