The Czech auto maker is considering producing a cheap car aimed at the masses in India. Small car segment is the most promising car segment in India that accounts for nearly two-third of the total passenger car sales. "It is true, but everything is still at the stage of being under consideration," Jaroslav Cerny said. He also added that the company wants to add four more models to its product portfolio as Indian looks a very promising market.

Nearly every automaker is planning to introduce its small car in India to capture a larger market share. Skoda is also planning to introduce a small car in India to boost its car sales in the country. It has already launched its hatchback model, Skoda Fabia, in the small car segment. It also has Skoda Octavia and Skoda Laura, Skoda Superb under its Indian product umbrella.

Skoda plans to sell 20000 units in the current calendar year and has already sold 9556 cars in the first six months itself. It sold 13000 units in 2007 calendar year. It sold 1103 vehicles in August 2008 as compared to 900 units in the same month last year. It has its manufacturing facility in Shendra near Aurangabad.
