      Salman Khan could end up with a 10 years jail sentence

      Tough times lie ahead for the nation's biggest heartthrob- Salman Khan. The controversy laden Bollywood actor is once again in the news, as a new development has come up regarding his infamous 2002 hit and run episode. Reportedly, Bandra Magistrate's court has accepted the petition filed by Maharashtra government that asks Salman must be tried under section 304 (II) of Indian Penal Code for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The hearing date of the long pending hit and run case is scheduled for February 11, 2013.

      At present, Salman Khan is under trial according to the section 304 (I) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) for rash and negligent driving, with which he faces a jail sentence of two years. However, Khan will now be put on trial under section 304 (II), which possibly means that he could end up with a jail term of 10 years, if found guilty in front of the court.

      Owing to the seriousness of offence, the Magistrate has submitted case to the Sessions court for trial. The trial started in the year 2006 in Bandra Magistrate court. Informing about the development, advocate Dipesh Mehta, Salman Khan's lawyer, was quoted as saying, “Salman would have to appear before the Sessions court on February 11.”

      The trouble times started for Salman Khan when he drove his car into a Mumbai bakery, which resulted in the death of one innocent soul and serious injuries to four persons sleeping on the pavement. The incident occurred in the year 2002 and the vehicle used by Salman was a Toyota Land Cruiser SUV.
