Honda Cars India recently announced that sales of its entry level sedan Amaze has crossed the mark of 30,000 units since its launch in April 2013. According to the company, the overall sales of the model registered a 65 per cent increase in the April to July quarter owing to the diesel powered engine of Amaze, which lived up to the auto maker's expectations. Honda further told that the feat achieved by Amaze is the fastest for any model in the history of the company.

Commenting on success of Amaze, Senior Vice President (Marketing & Sales) of Honda Cars India Limited, Jnaneswar Sen was quoted as saying, "We are ecstatic with the overwhelming response received for Amaze since the launch and are delighted having delivered 30,000 Honda Amaze to our customers. Honda Amaze was developed following extensive surveys in India on customer's needs and requirements setting new benchmarks in the industry in terms of design, packaging, cabin comfort, and fuel-efficiency."

The huge response meted out to Amaze can be assessed from the fact that Honda recently announced that it will start third shift from November 2013 at its Greater Noida plant, in order to meet the growing demand for Amaze. Honda Amaze has performed reasonably well in the Indian car market by cutting in a meagre market share of segment's best seller Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire. Since its launch, Honda sold around 5500 to 6000 units of Amaze every month while the figures for Swift DZire have gradually came down by almost 1500 units with the company now selling an average 16,000 units on a monthly basis. It is said that the entry level sedan of Honda managed to tap in the customer base of other models with more than 80 per cent owners of Amaze being first time Honda buyers.

Contrary to Honda Amaze's growth in the Indian car market, the whole passenger car segment has been effected by the stagnant growth since past eight months. The market of cars have registered a fall by 7.49 per cent to 7.93 lakh units in the April to July tenure of 2013. On the other hand, Honda registered a growth of 64.95 per cent in the second quarter of 2013 with the company selling 40,350 units. It has also doubled its market share in the compact car segment, which presently stands at 12.84 per cent. Apart from it, the overall share of Honda in the passenger vehicle market has crossed the mark of 5 per cent during this financial year.

This performance of Honda can be attributed to its wide sales and dealer network, which spans across 98 cities as of now. The figure is further elated to increase with the company announcing its plans to strengthen its sales network in Tier II and III cities by increasing the number of outlets to 162 in 102 cities by the fiscal 2014.
