The continuously rising petrol prices are ultimately benefiting the cars that run on diesel fuel. In recent months, the gap between the petrol and diesel prices has widen-up with government increasing the petrol prices by a higher ratio. At present, the price gap between petrol and diesel is about Rs 25 per liter, making the diesel run cars need of the hour. A sudden increase has been witnessed in the demand for diesel cars in the Indian market. The showrooms across the country are now flooded with the customer enquiries related to the diesel variants of the cars. The popular diesel cars like Maruti Swift Dzire, Volkswagen Vento, Ford Fiesta and Mahindra Verito has been on a rise, continuously.

Not only in the new car segment, but even the used car segment is also witnessing the same trend. In recent months, the sales of used Mahindra Logan (now sold as Verito), Maruti Swift Dzire diesel, and older version of Ford Fiesta have been on a rise in the pre-owned car market. The sudden push in the demand has made these popular diesel run cars costlier by about 10 to 15 percent in the used car market.

On the other hand, the sales of petrol versions of the cars have been affected adversely in both new and used car segment. The used petrol run cars like Honda Civic and Hyundai Sonata, and SUVs such as Honda CRV and Mitsubishi Outlander, now have become about 20 percent cheaper in the second hand car market.
