Globally renowned car-maker Renault gained immense popularity on the Indian soil with the launch of compact SUV named 'Duster'. At the February held Auto Expo event, the car-maker turned on the heat even further by showcasing its very own new concept cars namely - Kwid and ZOE.
As per sources from the company, “Kwid concept highlights both Renault's commitment to new markets, such as India, as well as the company's ability to produce appealing products in the compact car segment. The vehicle's robust, yet fun design, along with its technology-driven features, is targeted at meeting the needs of young customers in these markets.”
The car's interior is said to be inspired by a bird's nest and is something which has never been seen before. The 2-tone elastomer material looks vibrant and bright. The concept car boasts of interesting features like rear seat air-conditioning control switch at the back of the driver's seat. Sumit Sawhney, Managing Director, Renault India Pvt. Ltd, said, “Renault has seen unparalleled growth in India in just under 3 years and the market is set to continue playing a significant role in the company's global strategy in the years to come. The reveal of the KWID CONCEPT in India - the first such unveil outside Europe, as well as its design keeping in mind the young customers in India illustrate our strong commitment to the country.”
The Kwid SUV is expected to be powered by 1.5 litre DCi, four pot, turbocharged diesel engine. The engine may probably be tweaked to give out different power outputs of about 85 PS and 110 PS. Sources have also hinted on a possibility of a three pot, turbocharged engine being used that is capable of churning out a maximum power of about 90 PS with top torque of about 135 Nm. The basic version of the SUV on the other hand could come powered by the naturally aspirated version of the 1.5 litre DCi motor generates 70 PS of pinnacle power along with 91 Nm of maximum torque. Confirmed detailed on the technical specification shall only be known at the time of its anticipated launch in 2016.
Coming to the Renault ZOE, this car was part of Renault Z.E. (Zero Emission) strategy of capturing market share in the electric vehicles space. Building on its tremendous success with the Duster in the Indian market, Renault has showcased the ZOE car too just ahead of the Auto Expo. Standing at just 4.10 metres in length and is powered by a 60kW (80hp) motor with torque of 222Nm, the ZOE was labeled the ‘SPA’ car by Renault officials in Paris. This car is made for city driving, combining stylish designs with a tremendous driving experience. If electric vehicles do take off in India, this car can be expected to be a huge hit.
