French car maker Renault is gearing-up to join the league of hatchback makers in the Indian market soon. The company is planning to launch a new compact hatchback, codenamed as B58 in the Indian market.

Considering the large number of new compact hatchbacks fighting for space in the Indian auto market, the path for Renault India is not going to be easy at all. It will be taking on the likes of Maruti Swift and Ritz, Ford Figo, Volkswagen Polo, Fiat Punto, Chevrolet Beat and the recently rolled-out Toyota Etios Liva.

As per market speculations, the Renault hatchback will be rolled-out in both diesel and petrol versions. While the petrol version of the car would be carrying a 1.2 liter - same as the volume of the engine the most of other cars of this segment - the diesel version will come powered by a 1.5 liter engine. The car will be based on company’s V platform which has already been used in partner Nissan's Nissan Micra, Nissan Sunny, and Nissan Almera.

However, Renault is yet to reveal the timeline of launch and pricing details of the car in the Indian market.
