Renault India Private Limited, the completely owned division of Renault S.A.S, has officially announced the prices of its X-tronic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) version of Renault Scala sedan. The Renault Scala RXL has been priced at Rs. 8.99 lakhs, which makes it a suitable competitor of Honda City AT, Maruti Suzuki SX4 AT and Skoda Rapid AT, among others. While, its RXZ X-tronic CVT variant is pitched slight higher at Rs. 9.89 lakhs (all prices are ex-showroom, Delhi).
Expressing his views on the occasion, the Managing Director of Renault India, Marc Nassif was quoted as saying, “With more and more cars on the road as well as frequent stop-and-go traffic, India has been seeing an increase in demand for automatic sedans in recent years. However, despite the growing interest for these cars, petrol automatic vehicles are still limited to a 6 per cent share in the premium sedan segment because they deliver lower mileage and higher cost of ownership.”
The auto maker has introduced its new technology in only petrol models of Scala sedan. Reportedly, with the launch of CVT models, Renault India has emerged as the first auto maker to introduce the next generation gearbox in the Indian auto industry. Owing to its advanced transmission system, the new variant of French auto maker delivers a class-leading mileage of 17.97 kmpl, as certified by ARAI. Industry experts believe that the fuel efficiency of Scala premium sedan can be compared with that of the manual transmission models.
He further said, “The Scala X-tronic CVT aims to bridge this gap by offering class-leading fuel efficiency, reliability and performance. With the next-generation X-tronic transmission, customers will be able to experience a new technological benchmark in automatic transmission which offers a smoother ride, convenience and savings, making the Scala CVT an attractive choice for those opting for an automatic premium sedan.”
The CVT variant is equipped with several industry leading features, which includes dual airbags, 15-inch sporty alloys wheels, electronically adjustable mirrors, automatic climate control, multi-information display and chrome-polished door handles. The additional features offered within RXZ variant are automatic foldable mirrors, leather upholstery and chrome radiator grille. The auto maker has also incorporated several key safety features within its new model, including Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist.
