Renault is gearing up to bring in 4X4 variant of Duster compact SUV two years after its launch in India. Buzz has it that the new variant of Duster is likely to be rolled out in India during the festive season. The SUV has been caught undergoing test rounds in various parts of the country. With the competition intensifying in SUV segment it had become necessary for the French auto maker to come up with a new variant in order to keep the popularity of Duster intact. Also, festive season launch will help the SUV to open up to a good response as customers tend to buy vehicles during this time.

In other global markets, 4X4 trim is already on sale in both diesel and petrol options, however in India it is expected to come only in diesel version. The international spec 4X4 diesel trim comes equipped with a 1.5 litre, four cylinder, diesel powerplant that generates a maximum power output of 110 Hp along with a top torque of 240 Nm coupled to a six-speed manual transmission. The 4X4 system equipped in Duster is a Nissan drivetrain component that is produced at the manufacturing unit located in Romania.

Indian version of Duster 4X4 variant is expected to sport exterior and interior tweaks. Body cladding present all over the body of the SUV will render it a more bold and raw look to the vehicle. Inside the cabin, we expect the SUV to come with new upholstery differentiating it from the current 2WD trim. On the price front, 4X4 variant is expected to be priced more than the 2WD variant for obvious reasons.
