Putting all speculations to rest, MSI has officially proclaimed recall of 103,311 units of its popular models, Swift hatchback, Swift Dzire compact sedan and Maruti Ertiga MPV.These vehicles will be recalled over faulty fuel neck filler which will be replaced free of cost at the MSI’s authorized dealer. 47,237 units of Maruti’s flagship, Swift hatchback, 42,482units of Dzire and 13,593units of Ertiga manufactured between November 12, 2013 and February 4, 2014 are suspected to be equipped with the defective fuel neck filler. The process of notifying customers has already begun effective today.
MSI has confirmed that the rest of the vehicles from its portfolio have not been detected with any such defect. In affected units of Swift, Dzire and Ertiga, there is a possibility of fuel smell and in rare case, fuel can also leak provided, fuel is filled above the Auto cut off level.
The problem in these three models was identified while company conducted its regular quality tests in the manufacturing process. MSI has started sending new fuel neck fillers to the dealers, since the number of vehicles to be replaced with new fuel neck filler is high, MSI is putting up stock of the necessary component at its dealers workshop.
The company has also requested respective owners of Swift, Dzire and Ertiga who purchased any of these models after November 12, 2014 to check MSI’s site to confirm if there is any problem in their vehicle. Customers need to fill out the chassis number on the computer screen; the chassis number is embossed on the ID plate of the car and is also mentioned in the invoice of the vehicle or registration documents. Or customers can rush to the Maruti Suzuki dealer workshop to verify if their vehicle is affected or not.
