After the gas pedal problems in Toyota models and massive recall by the company, Toyota has received a fresh set back with brake problems reported in its most popular hybrid model – Toyota Prius. The model is globally renowned best selling hybrid model and latest reports from some models have suggested that the car has been experiencing insufficient braking when travelling over bumpy or frozen roads. The complaints have poured in from Japanese and North American markets.

Since there has been a large pool of complaints against Toyota recently, the US congress has ordered a detailed inquiry and complete investigation of the situation. The Toyota reputation that has been built on quality and reliability is seriously at stake especially in the US and European markets.

In response to government pressure, Toyota has accepted that it is aware of braking problems in Prius and has fixed the problem in cars sold since late January. The new braking problem is present only in earlier 2010 models that have been in the market less than a year. Toyota attributed the problem to the software installed for ABS system. Still, Toyota remains unclear how it will solve problems in Prius models sold in 2010.
