In a bid to flourish its motorsports division, Nissan Motor Co. Ltd unveiled its new race car version of LEAF model called the Nissan LEAF Nismo at the ongoing Tokyo Motor Show recently.

Nissan Motor's performance and motorsports division, Nismo is responsible for developing world's best selling zero-emission vehicle with a fast road car treatment. The Nismo concept successfully showcased a sporty aspect of Nissan LEAF Nismo.

Nissan LEAF has carved a niche for itself by crossing 20,000 sales since 2010 and has received two international awards. The new Nissan LEAF Nismo concept taps into the abundant performance potential of the zero-emission vehicle.

Corporate Vice President, Nissan Motor Company and Head of Electric Vehicle Business Unit, Hideaki Watanabe says, “The Nismo Concept not only proves the hidden potential of Nissan LEAF but also adds even more excitement and energy to LEAF, delivering a guilt-free yet exhilarating driving experience that can be enjoyed by every car enthusiast.”

The new Nissan LEAF Nismo has a trendy exterior structure which showcases several modifications that not only add to the fashion quotient but functionality as well. The stylish new vehicle has an aerodynamic design that produces extra down-force at high speed, enhancing the vehicle's handling and grip.

The most evident changes on the exterior can be seen in features like front aero bumper, rear under protector, rear diffuser, extended side sills and 18-inch alloy wheels. Moreover, the body kit of the new LEAF Nismo has been designed as an extension of the Nissan LEAF's 'smart fluidity' concept.

The performance division of Nissan has not made many changes in the electric drive-train of LEAF. Based on a 107bhp, AC motor, the vehicle is capable of a high torque of 280 Nm. Furthermore, the vehicle can reach around 100 kmph in only 7 second and race to a top speed of 145 kmph.

Thus, Nissan Motors has not only succeeded in making zero-emission vehicles a practical reality but also reached a new high with its Nissan LEAF Nismo.
