The Indian unit of the Japanese auto giant Nissan Motors has registered a massive surge in its sales during the month of October 2011. The company managed to sell a total of 2,990 units of its cars during the month as compared to the sales of 1,131 units in the same month last year.

The recently rolled-out entry level sedan Nissan Sunny has emerged as a major contributor to the company’s sales in India, clocking sales of 1340 units in the Indian market. According to the company, it has received over 2,000 bookings for the Sunny Sedan in India since its launch in September 2011.

In a statement issued by the company on Wednesday, it said, "The Micra compact premium hatchback, also produced in Oragadam, continues to be Nissan's top-selling model and accounted for 1,619 unit sales last month -- a 52 per cent increase compared to 2010."

While speaking on the company’s performance, Nissan Motors India Private Limited (NMIPL) Managing Director Kiminobu Tokuyama said, "October's sales are very encouraging and demonstrate the sustained progress Nissan is making within the Indian market."

The India portfolio models of Nissan include hatchback Micra, sedan Sunny, premium sedan Teana, compact luxury sports utility vehicle X-Trail and a luxury sports car 370Z.
