Next-gen Mercedes-Benz E-Class set for India debut post GST

This new E-Class (codenamed W123) was unveiled at the start of this year and is the sixth generation for the famous badging. It sports a design similar to the latest generation C-Class and S-Class which includes a chrome grille, headlamps and overall silhouette that the vehicle exudes. It sports an evolutionary design for the cabin that has all the usual luxuries like leather trim, multi-zone climate control, infotainment system with 4G connectivity and space for 4-5 people to travel in absolute comfort.

The car will be offered with a range of four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines with the higher spec models getting inline-6 engines. The German automaker has also unveiled the E43 AMG which makes use of a 3.0-litre V6 petrol that produces 396bhp.

The E-Class, as a range, is quite important to the German automaker’s volumes in the Indian market. This leads us to believe that they will bring the car here through the CKD route to gain the immediate advantage of locally assembling the car. It will take on the likes of the next generation BMW 5 Series, Jaguar XF, Audi A6 and the Volvo S90.
