Yamaha officials have revealed that the new manufacturing facility located in Chennai is scheduled to become operational quite soon. Sometime earlier this year, the Japanese manufacturer had made progress in the country by establishing a scooter plant in Vallam Vadagal, at a little distance from Chennai. Yamaha had also revealed at that point that the facility will be production ready by 2015. The recent revelations show that the preparations are well on track.
This new facility is expected to employ over 1800 people at the production, which will be increased to 6500 over the next half decade. The facility is capable of producing 4.5 lakh units per year. Also, the number will be eventually increased to 18 lakh units within the year 2018. An approximate amount of 1500 crores INR has been invested by Yamaha for this project.
Yamaha is undoubtedly looking forward to take its business to the next level with this production facility. It has also been found out that India is set to become the manufacturer’s second largest market. Yamaha’s total production capability is expected to touch 28 lakhs in the next five years. If these plans are aptly carried out by the manufacturer, then the competition is sure to increase in the next couple of years.
