      New Volvo XC90 launch likely by festive season

      Volvo, the Swedish luxury carmaker, is aiming to further enhance its market share in the Indian market. The company is planning to launch the new-generation Volvo XC90 SUV in the Indian car market. Volvo is in talks with multiple Indian automakers to assemble its products here; however, this process will take some time. Initially, the SUV will be imported as a completely built up unit. The bookings for the XC90 are expected to commence in the next couple of moths, while the launch is expected to take place ahead of festive season (September/October).

      Based on the Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA), the 2015 Volvo XC90 will be offered in diesel version. The company will import the D5 twin turbo diesel engine, which is a four cylinder unit that is a Volvo Drive E powertrains. This engine is capable of producing a top power output of 225bhp and a peak torque of 470Nm. This powertrain features the i-ART injection technology and is claimed to offer high fuel efficiency and low tail pipe emissions.

      Later, the maker might also introduce the petrol variant of the SUV which is powered by T6 turbocharged unit. The T6 petrol engine uses both supercharging and turbocharging. It is capable of producing a top power output of 320bhp and a peak torque of 400Nm. Both the engines will be coupled to an eight-speed automatic gearbox, which sends power to either the front or all four wheels of the SUV (depending upon the variant chosen). It is also expected that the Volvo XC90 T8 hybrid for the Indian market.
